NEED TO WRITE

I FEEL THE NEED TO WRITE!  I have nothing to say really, just concluded that I miss my daily journaling.  Since it is day to day life right now, in my mind it is not that important to write about - BUT, in reality, everyday is important and worth the pen, or in this case, keyboard……..

Here’s what I’ve been up to the last 7 weeks since I got off the ship - LOTS!

When I first set out to write this post, I realize that I have been off the ship for a little over six weeks and haven’t done much in that time other than nap, do laundry and get reacquainted with my former life and doggies. Then, I walked around my house, my garden and viewed my calendar.  Wow - it hit me: A LOT has happened in this very short timeframe!  I’m making a list of what I have accomplished and my main point to all of this is that even small accomplishments are something and life is just as busy and fulfilling as ever. Here is a list of a dozen things I have done!

 1.  We flew home and enjoyed getting re-acclimated to our beautiful island home.  This photo on the right is not mine.  I’m not sure where I found it….  It shows beautifully our shoe shaped island.  Our home is located not far from the semi-circular (J shaped) white sandy beach in the corner.  It felt so nice to be home and to sleep in my own bed!

2.  I’ve spent some time driving around the island and admiring the changes in climate and vegetation since we were last here.  It doesn’t get very cold here, but it was chilly when we left and now it is so hot!  Things have really grown too.  We had to get our palm trees trimmed!

3.  One of the first things I did after I got home and settled in was to take a 4 day trip to the Charlotte, North Carolina area to visit my daughter and her family and to watch my granddaughter and grandson dance in their recitals.  It was magical and a fun trip!  I feel bad that I didn’t get any photos!

4.  I attended several neighborhood gatherings!  On Memorial Day weekend, our neighborhood hosted a social where we had a cornhole tournament, shared food and caught up with our neighborhood gossip!  A couple days later the ladies all met up for an evening of Bunco.  I went to the local Art Festival with a neighbor friend and we also enjoyed a fabulous dinner one evening at her home.

5.  I power-washed the patio, umbrellas, front porch, steps and walk.  I then made several trips to the garden center and planted annuals, redid some flower boxes and started an herb garden after digging up a ton of ginger roots!  The herb garden is not doing well, however, because it’s not getting enough water.  It’s been very hot here……

6.  I planned a trip north to visit my son and his family.  After leaving there I’m taking a road trip to visit the places I used to live and visit with my sister.  Plane, car and hotel reservations all taken care of.

7.  I bought 2 gorgeous garden benches and updated my rose garden!  Part of this redo required repotting three topiaries and acquiring and planting 4 large Jasmine plants to twine in the two arbors.  I arranged and supervised the spreading of pinestraw and mulch and now the garden is beautiful!  Still needs more roses, but that will come…..

8.  I worked on my scrapbooks, a dollhouse and read a novel…..

9.  I bought a new washer and dryer and sold the old set on Facebook Marketplace.  We also had two new garage door openers installed.

10.  I lost ten pounds!

11.  Our friends from Texas came just this past weekend for a four day visit!  It was so much fun having them here and showing them the things our island home has to offer.  They taught us a new card game and we can’t wait to teach it to our grands.  We ate at a few of our favorite places: The Salty Dog, The Quarterdeck, Frazier’s and Hudson’s.  We also enjoyed a fabulous sunset from our community dock.

12.  I’ve had a couple doctor’s appointments (one local and one in Savannah), a dentist appointment, a hair cut, two manicures and a pedicure.  AND, I’ve taken a NAP every afternoon!

WHEW!  Listing some things  I’ve done in the last seven weeks shows me that I really have been doing a lot!  It makes me want to take a NAP right NOW!
