HOME AWAY FROM HOME
OUR ADVENTURE HAS BEGUN! We left the house at 4:30 am for a 7 am flight out of Savannah. Flight was delayed for two hours! First flights out in the mornings are hardly ever delayed for “maintenance issues”, so our first thought was “Is this an omen for bad things to come?” Luckily, for us it wasn’t! We barely made our connection at Houston, but did, and our flight to Los Angeles was great! Our pilot actually stood in the aisle, told us a little bit about himself & the crew, and welcomed us on board. That is the first time I had seen that, I wish I had taken a picture of him!
Here we are at the Savannah airport. (I’m showing my “good” side! ).We had a restful night at LA hotel and then it was time to board our ship! We are so excited! We will be living on the Viking Sky for the next four months - January 5th to May 5th. We love the amenities that we get with Viking. We like that the ship is not huge - only 900 passengers, is well appointed, offers tons of cultural experiences, has fabulous food and pampers us! This is an Around The World Cruise. We will be traveling from LA to London and hitting ports in Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, Polynesia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Africa, Spain, Portugal and France to name a few.
We left the hotel and checked onto the Sky! Our stateroom wasn’t ready so we enjoyed a nice lunch, shared a champagne toast and
finished lunch with some Gelato! Did I mention that the food is wonderful on this ship? Uh-oh! We need to be careful and also take advantage of the walking track on level two!
Look at all the luggage we brought! We also sent two bags ahead. We justify it by remembering that we will be gone for FOUR MONTHS!
We finally were able to get into our stateroom around 2 pm. It is rather small and we are struggling to find a place for everything we brought and keep the room uncluttered! Currently, it is a work in progress. Thank goodness all those suitcases will fit under the bed.
At 5 pm there was a welcome reception with music to celebrate our departure. We sailed away from LA around 6 pm. and then enjoyed a nice dinner at one of the restaurants. Mark had a Tuna Tartar Tower and Bouillabaisse and I had Sea Bass. Yum! After dinner he attended a lecture and I headed back to the room to finish unpacking. Early to bed! It has been an exhausting few weeks and we welcomed a good nights sleep. Day One of our adventure completed! ✔️
Cheers!
Gelato - Yum!
Our Home for the next four months!
