VYING FOR THIS

Fantasy Football Championship Time is here!

I mentioned in an earlier post that I enjoy playing Fantasy Football.  I’ve been on a family league for at least ten years and also a neighborhood league that Mark started in 2020 as a way to get to know our new neighbors during Covid.  Last year I won that neighborhood league - Season League Champion AND Tournament Champion!  I went by the name of Tiki Barbie which I thought was pretty cute!  My daughter-in-law, Amy, came up with the name playing off of a former NFL player named Tiki Barber - clever!

Because of that win, I got a little cocky and decided to move up a level to what our neighborhood refers to as the POWER LEAGUE…..  $150 to join the league and a big cash pot for the winner.  There are two first prizes - winner of the season and winner of the tournament.  Mark put the money in for me so I had nothing to lose, except maybe my pride….. I was the only woman playing on this league and in my own mind, I had to prove that I could compete equally with the guys who know a lot more about football than I do.  Even after all these years, I’m still learning the game.  Recently, Mark had to give me a lesson on the differences of a running back, a wide receiver and a tight end and when he asks me what team one of my players is on, I answer with, “the team that wears the red shirts with the V neck”.  He walks away frustrated and wondering if I even know what I am doing.  Do I?  Wink Wink………

I chose the name “Barbarians at the Gate”, had a decent draft and was on my way!

I had a good season.  Actually a great season!  I was LUCKY because very few of my players were injured this season and I was able to secure a couple high end players from the waivers.  I also received great advice from Mark and my son, Michael, who were both playing on several leagues.

At the end of the regular season, guess who came in first - yep, Barbarians at the Gate!  Time to open that gate for the play-offs to see if I had a chance at that trophy!  The Barbarians moved on up and at the end of the day WON IT ALL!  Two trophies now belong to me, at least to display until next season.  And the Barbarians end up with the cash as well!

I honestly can’t say that I am good at playing Fantasy Football.  I do read a lot of articles and injury reports, etc., but mostly it is just DUMB LUCK!  And, I was lucky again this time!  Next season…..probably not!

Now, what exactly does a tight end do again?

League Champ Trophy

 Final Score - wow!

My two trophies to proudly display!  I love these trophies- I think they are a hoot!

Lucky Me!
