RAINY DAY IN QUEBC CITY
Today we are in Quebec City and it is RAINING! Will this put a “damper” on things? Probably, but we just have to go with the flow! We took the included tour this morning which was a narrated bus tour. Our guide was excellent and was so full of knowledge that as we focused on what he was saying we almost forgot that it was raining! Almost! We boarded our coach and did a big loop around Old Town Quebec City which is the oldest town in Canada and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is charming, full of quaint buildings and cobblestone streets. It consists of two parts, Lower Town and Upper Town. The Lower Town was settled first, in 1608, where the first settlers set up the town near the harbour and then moved up the hill on the cliff to Upper Town where they built Fort Saint Louis. Both areas were beautiful and we enjoyed our time in each one.
I tried to take some photos along our route, but they didn’t turn out very well with raindrops on the windows.
After driving around the town we visited The Plains of Abraham, a historic site and a park. Our guide told us about the battle that occurred there between the French and English. The English eventually conquered Quebec City but the city kept its French culture even though it was officially an English colony. French is the official language in Quebec City and children must speak French in school. English is considered to be a foreign language subject in school.
We stopped in Upper Town at a town square and enjoyed some free time to tour the famous Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac and other shoppes and cafes in the area. The Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac is known as the world’s most photographed hotel. This historic landmark dominates the skyline of Old Quebec and has hosted numerous celebrities and political figures. Perched on Cap Diamant, it offers stunning views of the St. Lawrence River. We found the entire area to be beautiful and quite charming!

Next we drove out of town to Montmorency Falls. They were tall and beautiful! Our guide said that they were actually taller than Niagara Falls, but not as wide. Mark walked down the rainy path to admire the views from below the falls. I elected to stay dry in the visitor center and enjoy a latte instead!
After being drop off at the port, Mark and I had lunch and then strolled around Lower Town. It was fun and beautiful - even in the rain! We decided that this was a place we would like to come back to and stay for a few days!
Our guide suggested we take this photo from the pier looking at Quebec City. He said that on a beautiful day, it is stunning. It wasn’t a beautiful day!
